November 30, 1937 - April 18, 2025
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Helen Williamson of Chemainus, BC. Born on November 30, 1937 in Edmonton, AB, Helen passed peacefully at the Chemainus Health Care Centre on April 18, 2025 at the age of 87 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind her four daughters: Tracy, Robbee, Michelle (Rob) and Roanna; grandchildren: Robert, Matt, Krystal, Ryan, Thomas (Ashley), Sam, Shannon (Don), Craig (Maria), Lauren (Nicole), Charlie (Norma), Jamie (Chad), and twelve great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Bob (2023), and her son-in-law Bobby (2020). Helen married Charles Robert Williamson in August of 1958 and together they raised a family and created their legacy that will carry forward into the future.
Helen lived a rich and full life that included family, friends, community, travel and an active social circle. She volunteered regularly as we grew up, opened her door to all our friends, and cooked for everyone. She was an avid and voracious reader and amassed a library worthy of praise. After a working career in retail, she ventured into business and opened her bookstore in Duncan in the early 90's. She was a member of the Kinettes Club for a number of years in which she once won a public speaking award. Her and Dad discovered cruising which led to many happy holidays abroad, over the years. Helen's favorite place to visit and unwind was Tofino on the West Coast.
During her years as a longtime member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Helen served a two year term as it's president. Something she was extremely proud of! She spent countless hours volunteering in the Chemainus Thrift store happily sorting, counting and organizing the books. Helen enjoyed socializing and spent many "happy hours" at dinner parties, block parties on her street, hosting family dinners or simply having the neighbours in for a drink. She loved a good conversation and was always up for a good debate. If you took her on, all bets were off!
Helen was strong, independent and fiercely loyal. She cared deeply for family, friends, and was always someone that could be counted on anytime she was needed. Her pride and joy was her family and as it grew over the years, she embraced all who became a part of it. She was a deeply proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and told anyone who would listen. Her true strength and resiliency shone through in her later years as she rallied time and time again, to overcome numerous health obstacles. She never gave up or gave in, a true warrior to the end, that is what she taught us too!
The family would like to extend our deepest and heartfelt gratitude to the kind and caring staff of Chemainus Health Care Centre. Also a big thank you to Dr. Tanis Morris for her unwavering support and unequaled care of our mother.
Mom's unconditional love and support, her cheeky sense of humor, and her love of good books will stay with us forever.
"Those we love never truly leave us.
There are things that death cannot touch."
A Celebration of Helen's Life will be held from 1:00 - 3:30pm on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Sands Funeral Chapel - Duncan, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC.
