Discovery Elementary School has been added to the list of schools in the Cowichan Valley where COVID-19 cases have been reported.

According to a letter from the principal dated Tuesday, Sept. 14 that was posted to the BC School Covid Tracker, Island Health is working on the case investigation and will share necessary information.

COVID-19 cases have now been reported at six schools in the Cowichan Valley as the second week of classes gets underway.

According to the independently operated BC School Covid Tracker, Frances Kelsey Secondary and Bench Elementary reported cases via email to families on Friday, Sept. 10.

Drinkwater Elementary, Quamichan School and Cowichan Secondary were added to the list on Sept. 12. As of Sept. 14, Cowichan Secondary had announced three cases.

Some of the schools have provided dates when exposures may have occurred, including Bench (Sept. 7 and 8), Drinkwater (Sept. 7-9), and Cow High (Sept. 7-10).

The BC School Covid Tracker has included screenshots of several of the letters sent home to parents.

Students in School District 79 are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated for COVID-19 if they are eligible. All students in grades 4-12 are required to wear masks at school.
