It has not been a good start to the long weekend in the Chemainus area.

A second major two-vehicle accident of the day occurred Friday afternoon at the intersection of Olsen Road and Chemainus Road. There had been an earlier one on Chemainus Road just south of the roundabout at the Sawmill Taphouse & Grill.

Two ambulances were on the scene of the Olsen Road crash. The extent of the injuries to vehicle occupants is not known.

Damages to the vehicles was again extensive, as in the earlier crash.

Chemainus Fire Department attended and a pumper truck from the Crofton hall was called for mutual aid.

Emergency vehicles have been going in every which direction most of the day. At the same time of the Olsen Road incident, a police car was headed south through Chemainus on its way to another major accident just outside of Duncan at Green Road.

Police are urging everyone to use caution this long weekend, with more vehicles on the road, and to be sure to check your speed.
