Canco Saltair Supermarket owner Navinder Jossan is thankful his employee was not seriously hurt during a robbery and assault at the convenience store in July.

Ladysmith RCMP are now seeking public assistance in identifying the man who came into the store at 10858 Chemainus Rd. on July 25 around 8 p.m. After refusing to provide ID to buy cigarettes, the suspect assaulted the clerk and left the store.

“He just grabbed the cigarettes and just ran,” said Jossan.

“I tell my employees your safety is very, very important. Let them go, whatever they want.”

After being summoned to the location following the incident, police officers were provided with details by the store clerk.

”My co-worker asked for the ID,” said Jossan. “We have to follow the protocol. He said he didn’t have an ID and he comes here all the time.”

When refused service, the altercation ensued and the suspect fled.

The culprit is identified as being in his late teens, wearing a black Gucci hoodie with a black hat. He also had multi-coloured sunglasses and was wearing dark pants.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215.
