Emergency personnel were called out after a man fell several metres on the rocks along the shoreline at Cameron Island this morning.

Nanaimo RCMP, B.C. Ambulance, Nanaimo Fire Rescue and the Port of Nanaimo responded to the Nanaimo Boat Basin on Friday, Sept. 16, shortly before 8:30 a.m.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief Troy Libbus said the man fell a distance of seven to nine metres down the rock face of Cameron Island and landed in the water. Firefighters called the port authority to assist in moving the patient from where he had fallen.

Libbus said the NPA Eagle harbour patrol craft was unable to get close enough to the shoreline to retrieve the victim who was complaining of pain in his hip and shoulder.

“So the RCMP had a rigid hull inflatable and the RCMP and NFR took the patient off and took him over to the dock,” the assistant chief said.

The victim was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital where he was checked over for injuries and hypothermia.
