The family and friends of Gladys Barman want to thank those in the Cowichan Valley who helped in the search for her this summer.

Family friend Teri Young, who employed Barman’s son Neil, said a “thank you” event will be held on Sept. 29 at the Affinity Guesthouse, located at 5155 Samuel Rd. in Cowichan Bay, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

She said a celebration of life was held for the Oak Bay woman, whose body was found near Lake Cowichan on Aug. 1, in Victoria last week, and Young said Barman’s relatives and friends wanted to hold another event to recognize the many people in the Valley who helped look for her.

“Many people participated in the search, putting up posters and in many other ways, and we wanted to show our appreciation, ” Young said.

The “Finding Gladys Barman” Facebook page added that the family “welcomes those who searched, sent well wishes and kept Gladys in their hearts to join us for a drop-in gathering with light refreshments.”

Barman, 82, went missing on July 5 and her car was discovered on July 21 on a remote logging road behind Lake Cowichan. Her body was found on Aug. 1 by the Cowichan Search & Rescue Team 11 kilometres from where her vehicle had been located.

Foul play was not suspected.

Young said the family asked that those who plan to attend the gathering to RSVP on the Finding Gladys Barman” Facebook page so that organizers can plan for refreshments.
