Johanne Kemmler is running for trustee in the upcoming school board elections this fall.

“Keeping all our students, educators, families, and partner groups informed, heard and respected is certainly at the top of my agenda,” said the mother of three grown children.

Johanne is proud that they were all educated in the public schools and now lead successful lives. She is also a grandmother of four, of which three are school aged and attending schools in the Cowichan Valley.

Kemmler has been a school district employee for almost 30 years, most of that time as clerical. Ensuring that every student receives a progressive education in a positive learning environment is at the forefront of her agenda. This is why she thinks this is a perfect time for her to step in to continue building on the present success of our trustees and to help shape the future.

When asked why are you running for trustee, you will hear: “I am committed to fostering an inclusive environment. I firmly believe that schools are part of the extended family of a child’s life. Our children spend six hours a day in school and I am committed to this being a positive, caring, learning environment. I believe this matters.”

Johanne Kemmler has been a member of the executive of CUPE Local 5101 in the capacity of treasurer since 2012. During this time she has been part of the labour management team, bargaining and sat on the Joint Job Evaluation Committee. Her dedication, integrity and professionalism have been hallmarks of her tenure.

If elected Johanne will have to leave her job with School District 79, that is how committed she is. She truly feels that it is the right time for her. She is hard working, dedicated and reliable.
