Rainforest Arts in Chemainus is seeking writers to collaborate with visual artists for its upcoming show, Convergence.
Writers and poets use words to conjure images, thoughts and emotions. In Convergence: Images + Words, the flow of creativity will be reversed, with art inspiring words.
The exhibit is set to run from mid-January to the end of March at the Rainforest Arts Gallery and will feature a unique collaboration between visual artists and writers. At a wine-and-cheese gathering on Jan. 7, invited writers from the Cowichan Valley and Vancouver Island will be paired with visual artists whose works are on display at the gallery. Writers will compose short prose or poetry in response to the artwork, which will be displayed alongside the pieces starting Feb. 1.
Up to 20 selected writers and poets will have the opportunity to attend the gathering where they will meet their fellow artists and view their work. Compositions will be displayed in the gallery for two months, offering writers a chance to showcase their work in a public space. Participants will also receive art cards featuring their words alongside the art that inspired them. As part of the exhibit, the writers will be featured in Rainforest Arts Gallery’s online posts, which will include readings of their work along with visuals of the art.
