Suspect arrested in hit-and-run incident

Person apprehenaded nine days after accident at Mount Sicker Road and Trans Canada Highway

A suspect was taken into custody Saturday relating to a hit-and-run incident that occurred Aug. 17 at Mt. Sicker Road and the Trans Canada Highway.

North Cowichan-Duncan RCMP expressed its thanks to the public for assistance in the matter.

Just after 9 p.m. Aug. 17, RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run. It was alleged a blue Mitsubishi Lancer was stopped on the Trans Canada Highway in the northbound left-turn lane at Mt. Sicker Road when it was struck from behind by a red truck.

The driver of the red truck got out of his vehicle, walked up to the Mitsubishi and asked if the occupants were OK. When the occupants replied ‘no,’ the driver of the red truck walked back to his vehicle and fled the scene southbound on the Trans Canada Highway.

The driver of the Mitsubishi managed to photograph the red truck as it fled.

Occupants of the Mitsubishi included a husband, wife, and their infant baby. They were transported to Cowichan District Hospital by British Columbia Ambulance Services, treated for minor injuries and released later the same night.
