School zone speed limit in effect with students back in class

Drivers reminded to slow down within Chemainus and Crofton schools

Students are back in Chemainus and Crofton school classrooms. It’s also a reminder for drivers to be alert and observe school zone speeds again.

The speed limit is 30 kilometres per hour in school zones on days when schools are in session and up until 5 p.m.

At Crofton Elementary, Tim Ylagan is entering his second term as principal.

Enrollment at Crofton Elementary is around 180 students, which is close to the same as last year, he said.

COVID has created a whole series of protocols within the schools to keep everyone safe. Ylagan is looking forward to a productive year for students with health orders in place.

“We’re following the guidelines,” he said. “We’re excited and we’re hopeful.”
