The temporary vessel replacement on the Crofton to Vesuvius ferry route on Salt Spring Island is continuing longer than expected.
A scheduled refit of the MV Quinsam that began Dec. 13 has taken longer than expected due to a mechanical issue with a critical engine component. As a result, the return of the Quinsam was delayed and the MV Quinitsa is providing service.
Adding to that are supply chain issues further delaying the completion of the refit from the planned return of Jan. 11 until Jan. 19, according to BC Ferries communications manager Dan McIntosh.
Mechanics are now awaiting a replacement turbo charger in order to finish the work.
BC Ferries advises customers the overall capacity of the Quinitsa is less than the Quinsam vessel. The Quinitsa can carry up to 44 vehicles.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the alternate vessel’s reduced capacity and look forward to the Quinsam returning to service after its required maintenance period,” BC Ferries noted in a statement.
