Colourful and reflective stickers are now visible on North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP vehicles.
The initiative was undertaken by Sgt. Stephen Merrick to bring awareness that police officers in the Cowichan Valley are committed to reconciliation and inclusiveness within the membership of the detachment and the communities they serve.
The rainbow flag on the driver’s side of the police vehicles are the LGBT2Q flag. The orange ribbon/feather on the passenger side of the vehicles are representative of support and compassion for those impacted by the residential school system in Canada.
“I wanted to find a way that would reach the most people to show them that the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are committed to reconciliation and inclusiveness and to remind everyone, that regardless of their backgrounds, they should feel comfortable and safe coming to us,” Merrick explained.
