NDP Member of Parliament Alistair MacGregor has been nominated to run again for the NDP in the Cowichan-Malahat-Langford riding in the next federal election.

MacGregor was nominated by Debra Toporowski, a director for North Cowichan on the Cowichan Valley Regional Districtboard and a Cowichan Tribes councillor, as well as young New Democrat Lexy Lazenby at a virtual meeting on Zoom. MacGregor was acclaimed as the candidate and is excited to be representing the NDP in a potential 2021 election.

“I feel very honoured to have been selected as the local NDP’s candidate for the next federal election,” stated MacGregor. “I look forward to continue supporting the amazing people and inspiring work being done in my community and making sure that their voices are heard in Ottawa. In wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, I am excited to work towards a better future to improve the lives of those who are struggling to make ends meet and to protect our environment for our future generations.”

Special guests included NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and former NDP MP for Nanaimo-Cowichan (2004-2015) Jean Crowder. Singh spoke in support of MacGregor’s nomination and highlighted the work the NDP has been doing recently in Ottawa, including fighting for a national Pharmacare program, expanding Employment Insurance for workers affected by COVID-19 and fighting for investments in a socially just and environmentally sustainable COVID recovery plan.

“As we slowly emerge from the damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we find ourselves at a crossroads, and there is too much at stake to ignore it,” noted MacGregor. “There are opportunities ahead to protect Canadians who are housing insecure, struggling to pay high childcare costs or unable to afford their medications.

”We can build a better Canada for our future generations – one where no one is left behind. This is our vision for Canada and the reason I am asking to be sent back to Ottawa to continue to work for positive change.”
