Ladysmith RCMP are probing a break and enter at the former elementary school in Saltair after several items were stolen, including a vehicle that belonged to the daycare.

The theft took place sometime overnight last Tuesday.

The school at 3580 South Oyster Rd. is now being leased by multiple businesses, including ILM Education Centre Daycare, JEM Massage Therapy and the Chemainus Art Group.

“Property was damaged during the break-in that included a smashed door that allowed entry to the building,” said Ladysmith RCMP Cpl. Dave Fish.

The vehicle reported stolen is a 2002 grey Dodge Caravan with the B.C. Licence plate AK0 416.

Property stolen from the premises included change from an antique gum ball machine and a DVD player.

Fish said that specialized RCMP resources are being utilized to gather forensic evidence from the scene in order to apprehend the suspect(s).
