Impressive totals for Chemainus Secondary students in scholarships and bursaries

Community provides abundant funds toward post-secondary education

Jennifer Mahon was awarded $7,750 in scholarship and bursary money.

A generous community of organizations and individuals contributed a total of $73,600 in scholarships and bursaries to the Chemainus Secondary School graduating class of 2021.

Jennifer Mahon was at the top of the grad list in monetary awards with $7,750 toward her future education, with Sian Diewert receiving only a fraction less at $7,500.

Mahon received a $5,000 Chemainus Health Care Auxiliary Bursary, a $1,500 Chemainus Health Care Foundation Bursary and a $1,250 Cowichan Valley School District Scholarship.

Diewert was awarded a $5,000 Chemainus Health Care Auxiliary Bursary, a $1,500 Chemainus Health Care Foundation Scholarship and a $1,000 Chemainus Seniors Drop-In Centre Bursary.

Emma Wilson $6,500 (Chemainus Health Care Auxiliary Bursary $5,000; Chemainus Health Care Foundation Bursary $1,500).

Melanie Cheng $5,550 (Chemainus Health Care Foundation Bursary $1,500; Chemainus Doctors Health Sciences Scholarship $750; Chemainus Legion Branch 191 Fine Arts Bursary $700; Tom Walker Forest Legacy Fund Bursary $600; Chemainus Firefighters Bursary $500; Chemainus Rotary Club John Dove Memorial Bursary $500; Chemainus Secondary PAC Bursary $500; Manfred Maier Bursary $500).

Camille Storteboom $4,950 (Hugo Lebitschnig Memorial Bursary – Crofton Community Centre $2,000; Cowichan Valley School District Scholarship $1,250; Eagles Auxiliary #4400 Bursary $1,000; Crofton Elementary Merri Lau Memorial Bursary $400; THESA $300).

Brianne Pamminger $4,850 (Harbans Manhas Memorial Bursary $1,500; Cowichan Valley School District Scholarship $1,250; Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Bursary $500; Chemainus Secondary School PAC Bursary $500; Cowichan Valley Division of Family Practice Bursary $500; Saltair Community Award $500; Brock McLeod Memorial Bursary $100).

Rebecca Rhode $4,500 (Cowichan Valley School District Scholarship $1,250; Chemainus Seniors Drop-In Centre Bursary $1,000; Roane Family Bursary $1,000; 49th Parallel Grocery Chemainus Bursary $500; Chemainus Masonic Lodge $500; Chemainus Elementary PAC Bursary $250).

Joey Knowles $3,950 (Thetis Island Community Fund Bursary $1,500; Cowichan Valley School District Scholarship $1,250; Thetis Island CVRD Community Bursary $500; Thetis Island Parent’s Association Bursary $500; Jorden Scott Memorial Bursary $200).

Chayla Pollock $3,900 (Cowichan Valley School District Scholarship $1,250; United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 Bob Freer, Ernie Freer, Jack Mumm, Syd Thompson and Bill Wilson Memorial Scholarship $1,250; Nessie Vye Memorial Bursary – Crofton Community Centre $1,000; Crofton Elementary Merri Lau Memorial Bursary $400).

Hanna Starkie $3,650 (Cowichan Valley School District Scholarship $1,250; Don and Dorothy Craig Memorial Bursary $1,000; Paige Whitelaw Memorial Bursary $750; Chemainus Rotary Club Jessie Price Memorial Bursary $400; Chemainus Elementary PAC Bursary $250).
