The Cowichan Valley Regional District is accepting expressions of interest from volunteers to serve on its commissions which provide input on land use applications and parks in its nine electoral areas.

The commissions include the electoral area advisory planning commissions and community parks advisory commissions in the electoral areas.

Advisory planning commissions provide advice and recommendations to the CVRD board on planning related matters such as rezoning applications, variance applications and Official Community Plan development.

To apply for an appointment, visit https://www.cvrd.ca/3130/Advisory-Planning-Commissions.

Community parks advisory commissions provide advice on issues pertaining to park and trail development, park amenities, park volunteer engagement, parkland acquisition opportunities, annual park budgets and community park events.

To apply for an appointment, visit https://www.cvrd.ca/276/Parks-Advisory-Commissions.

“These commissions are made up of community members who know their neighbourhood best and they provide critical advice to the CVRD board to help decision making,” said Alison Nicholson, vice-chair of the CVRD.

“This is a great opportunity for us to gather interest from both new and long-term residents and structure these commissions to be diverse and representative, providing guidance towards the long-term health and livability of our unincorporated areas.”

In addition to online applications, paper forms can be picked up at the CVRD main reception at 175 Ingram St. in Duncan.

Completed forms must be submitted to the CVRD by noon on Jan. 16.
