Ferry service between Crofton and Vesuvius Bay on Salt Spring Island was disrupted last Tuesday due to a crewing issue.

Astrid Chang, manager of corporate communications, strategy and community engagement for BC Ferries, indicated Jan. 25 sailings at 7:55 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. from Crofton were cancelled as well as sailings from Vesuvius at 6:45, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.

“A complimentary water taxi was provided and operated on the regular scheduled sailing times above. Customers needing to travel between Salt Spring Island and Vancouver Island with a vehicle had the option to do so via the Swartz Bay-Fulford Harbour route.

“We apologize for any inconvenience our customers may have experienced as a result of this cancellation.”

An advisory was issued earlier this month at https://www.bcferries.com/news-releases/potential-service-interruptions-due-to-crew-shortages. It includes a link to the ‘routes at a glance’ page.

Chang noted full service was restored the following day and the ferry is running back on its normal schedule.

However, crew and staff shortages have become a common occurrence since the Omicron virus surfaced and left many businesses shorthanded.

For the most up-to-date sailing and departure information, Chang advised customers to follow @BCFerries on Twitter, visit www.bcferries.com or call 1-888-223-3779 toll free.
