The Cowichan Valley Regional District has been awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers’ Association of the United States and Canada for the year ended December 31, 2017.

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting recognizes excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a municipal government. The program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.

“The CVRD strives to present its finances in a clear, transparent manner that is accessible and understandable for our residents,” noted Ian Morrison, chair of the Cowichan Valley Regional District. “This award affirms our staff excels in this work. On behalf of the board of directors, I want to specifically acknowledge the work of our Finance Manager, Natalie Wehner, and her team who developed our award-worthy 2017 report.”

The annual financial report has been judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate the financial story and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
