Board of Education moves district closure week to March 22-26

Change aligns Cowichan Valley School District dates with others around the province

The Cowichan Valley School District’s Board of Education has passed a motion to move the district’s closure week next year from March 8-12 to March 22-26.

This brings it in line with 56 other school districts in the province. With COVID-19 continuing to be an issue, the change will allow the Cowichan Valley School District to be better positioned to respond, along with provincial counterparts, by aligning the district closure week and spring break dates.

A new school calendar with updates will be completed on the district’s website.

Early in June, the Board of Education requested a 30-day community consultation period in order to possibly amend the 2020-21 school calendar.

An online survey was conducted during the past month. The Board received 1,794 survey responses and 65.16 per cent were in favour of the change.

Originally, the district closure week was scheduled from Monday, March 8 to Friday, March 12 which preceded the March 15-19 spring break dates. Now, the closure week will officially follow spring break.
