Blitterswyk awarded another significant scholarship

The honours just keep coming for Chemainus Secondary School 2020 grad class valedictorian

Chemainus Secondary School 2020 graduate Dyson Blitterswyk is the recipient of the Sir Percy Lake Memorial Scholarship.

The $2,000 award added to an impressive haul for the class valedictorian. Blitterswyk previously won a total of $13,550 from 10 different awards, including: the Chemainus Secondary School PAC Bursary ($500), Crofton Catalyst ($1,000), CUPE Local #5101 Mid Island School Employees Bursary ($500), Chemainus Legion Branch 191 Bursary ($1,000), Chemainus Rotary Club Jessie Price Memorial Bursary ($200), Chemainus Rotary Scholarship ($2,500), School District 79 Scholarship ($1,250), Tom Walker Forest Legacy Fund Bursary from the District of North Cowichan ($600), University of Victoria Faculty of Engineering: Dean’s Entrance Scholarship ($2,500) and the University of Victoria President’s Entrance Scholarship ($3,500).

The Percy Lake Scholarship recipient is selected from the South Vancouver Island Zone which consists of 16 Royal Canadian Legion Branches. The basis of selection is academic excellence and community service.

Blitterswyk is enrolled in engineering at the University of Victoria through virtual courses this year due to COVID.

“He is a very worthy recipient,” noted Chemainus Legion 191 president Len Lavender. “We congratulate him and wish him well as he continues his post-secondary education.”
