Renowned Chemainus Art Group member Astrid Notte has brought art of great significance to her to life.

The Amongst the Trees exhibit of Notte’s art is on display at the Wildwood Collective salon and studio at 3756 Willow St. in Chemainus until Sept. 23.

One of her most poignant paintings is titled A Touch of Gold.

When Notte lived in Haida Gwaii, she visited the Golden Spruce several times. Like so many in Haida Gwaii and elsewhere, this splendid tree was near and dear to her heart.

“Sadly, this rare and unique tree was chopped down by an angry woodsman, Grant Hadwin, in 1997,” Notte noted.

The painting is her memory of the Golden Spruce.

There is more information in the book The Golden Spruce by John Vaillant.

Notte extends an invite for interested persons to come and check out the paintings.
