Rainforest Arts in downtown Chemainus has been through a challenging year like everyone else, but the Rainforest Arts committee is heartened to see such wonderful support from the community.

A total of 602 people visited the gallery during November and December to view various works. Rainforest Arts is doing well and has worked to strengthen its online presence.

“We are continuing to feature artists both through our Featured Artist Exhibits (www.rainforestarts.ca) and virtually though ReachOut! (www.cvcas.ca),” reads a release from the committee. “We are also developing an idea to create some on-line demos, classes or workshops.”

Artists interested in leading one of these can submit an application to manager Stephanie Allesio.

“We are looking forward to this new year and seeing what 2021 brings,” the report adds. “We hope to continue to grow and with your support will continue to showcase our wonderful and talented Island artists.”

2D Artists

The next date for 2D wall art turnaround will be Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. Appointments and masks will be mandatory in compliance with COVID-19 procedures.

3D Artists

3D turnaround is ongoing. Artists can check in regularly and turn around their inventory every few months to showcase different art pieces.

Rainforest Arts would love to tell its audience about artists and their art on its Instagram and Facebook pages. Artists are encouraged to send photos of work such as new pieces or personal favourites plus photos of work spaces and/or photos of processes. A description and/or bio should be included.

Rainforest is also always looking for more people to join the volunteer family to help run the gallery and on-site artists can benefit from meeting customers and talking about their work.

The Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society Board is also looking for skilled volunteers such as a videographer, treasurer, membership coordinator and a grant writer.
