It’s going to be just like the good old days at the Osborne Bay Pub in Crofton.
Berry Music Company and the Osborne Bay Pub are back at it again, with a stellar line up of amazing music on tap for the next six Saturdays.
Patricia Berry has put in a great deal of work since becoming part owner of the pub. She also just happens to be the owner/operator of the boutique mall known as The Public Market in Chemainus.
With her Berry Music Company hat on, she wants to see people finishing the spring and starting the summer season in style with exciting evenings of dinner and dancing to get things heated up.
“I really want the whole valley to feel like the live music is for all of them,” she confided.
The pub features a large dance floor and is only a short hop, skip and a jump away from most areas of the valley.
“The level of showmanship and professional stage and sound of the venue itself create an experience unlike any other for an exciting weekend in your own backyard,” Berry stressed.
Berry Music Company aims to provide a variety of genres for all tastes. The lineup includes everything from classic rock to retro ’60s and ’70s covers to high-energy R&B, indie-folk and more.
Berry said she’s excited to be hosting live shows again and the bands are banging down the doors to perform. Bookings are already being taken into the fall to make up for lost time.
Things get going Saturday, May 21 with Black Angus, playing traditional and contemporary Celtic music.
The R&B Kingpins are next up on May 28, with swing and R&B favourites from the ‘50s and ‘60s, featuring veteran blues man Hank Lionhart and Jack Lavin from the Powder Blues Band.
The Kingpins are powered by a dynamic horn and rhythm section, guaranteed to bounce audience members out of their seats and onto the dance floor.
A mainstay in Vancouver’s pubs and clubs from 2000 until 2005, the Kingpins released two CDs: Knockin’ ‘Em Down in ’01 and This Road in ’05. After a hiatus of more than 14 years, Lionhart has reunited with original members Steve Cross (guitar/vocals) and Lavin (bass/vocals) after the three of them relocated to Victoria.
The group also consists of original member Steve Ranta (keys), with Calgary’s Ross Hall (drums), Wayne Kozak (sax) and Paul Wainwright (sax).
The Soul Shakers are on stage June 4 with their high-energy harmonies followed by Daniel Cook & The Radiators June 11 with an eclectic mix of indie-folk, funk and country, The Fabulous B-Sides June 18 featuring covers of ’60s and ’70s top hits and 5 Whiskeys Deep including Sandy Mckenzie from The Cowichan Valley’s own Row of Crowz June 25 with hard-hitting and electrifying classic rock.
Tickets are $15 for each show with the exception of the R&B Kingpins, priced at $20. Seating is limited and all tickets are available on Eventbrite.ca. Reservations are required by calling the pub at 250-324-2245.
