Friday is the final day of filming in Chemainus for The Hallmark movie, The Baker’s Son. And it’s going to be a big one.
Windward, Washington, the community that Chemainus partially depicts in the movie, will be staging a Pioneer Day celebration. The actors and actresses will be in unique period costumes for filming that segment of the movie.

The Baker’s Son stars Eloise Mumford as Annie; Brant Daughterty as Matt; Maude Green as Nicole; and Haig Sutherland as Walter, Mayor of Windward.
Thursday’s filming was mainly done inside the Willow Street Cafe, temporarily known as McBride’s. Everyone is hopeful of decent weather Friday for the extensive filming outside.
Extra decorations have been brought in for the strip of Willow Street between Mill and Victoria Streets. That section of the road will be completely closed off from 2-7 p.m. Friday.
Filming moves to Cowichan Bay for two days next week and then it’s on to Brentwood Bay and Oak Bay to complete the footage necessary for the movie that is expected to be on television sometime in June.
Watch for more coverage in next week’s Chemainus Valley Courier, featuring comments and observations from director Mark Jean, executive producer Joey Plager and unit manager Dylan Staniforth.
