The hits just kept on comin’ in a Sunday afternoon Chemainus Elementary School concert at the Chemainus Legion Hall.
The school’s Treble Makers and After School Rock Band performed a series of classics in classic style for the audience that packed into the hall for the graduating Grade 7 class fundraiser.
“I am so incredibly proud of my Treble Makers and Rock Band students,” noted intermediate music teacher Anna Steininger.
“They did a fantastic job and the audience couldn’t get enough of them. I feel so blessed to be their music teacher because I get to experience their enthusiasm, energy, and passion for music on a daily basis. They amaze me every day.”
The Treble Makers kicked off their set with I Don’t Want To Break Your Heart by Coeur de Pirate, with solos by Keirah Giles and Cooper Smith. It’s the song the group entered in the CBC Music Class Challenge that placed in the top 10 of the junior high category.
The group proceeded to roll out the hits after that, including many of Steininger’s favourites like Abba’s Mama Mia.
Others on the parade of unforgettable tunes were: The Temptations’ My Girl; Wheat Kings by The Tragically King, with special performances by Jack Cochrane, Colton Banks and Sienna Waller, that brought a few tears to eyes based on the recent death of Hip frontman Gord Downie; The Four Tops’ I Can’t Help Myself/Sugar Pie Honey Bunch; and Gloria Gaynor’s classic I Will Survive, with solos by Kirianne Healey and Nya Tallio-Fontaine.
The Rock Band began with Green Day hits Warning and When I Come Around, with a solo by Madison Constable.
Rounding it out were: Bon Jovi’s Wanted: Dead Or Alive, featuring vocals by Banks and a guitar solo by Noah Marston, and Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’, with Healey and Tallio-Fontaine performing solos again.
