Amazing lineup of music slated for the summer

Jam-packed schedule to suit all tastes at Waterwheel Park

It’s going to be a great summer for music at the Rotary Band Shell in Waterwheel Park, courtesy of the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society.

It all kicks off Wednesday, June 21 with a program on the stage for National Indigenous Peoples Day. That also marks the official start of summer.

Saturdays throughout July and August are booked with a great variety of musical acts, beginning with the Copper Canyon Band entertaining on the Canada Day holiday July 1 from 12:30-2 p.m.

Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9 are the dates for the Chemainus Valley Blues Festival that’s sure to attract a huge crowd from 1-8 p.m. each day, with the likes of Blue Moon Marquee and Brandon Isaak in the lineup.

Blue Moon Marquee was not only nominated for four Maple Blues Awards this year, but won all four for Entertainer of the Year, Acoustic Act of the Year, Recording/Producer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

A short time after the awards in Toronto, the duo who make up Blue Moon Marquee – Jasmine Colette and A.W. Cardinal – went on an extensive road trip to Australia, the southern United States and Europe so it’s definitely a treat for hometown fans to see and hear them.

The entertainment package momentum keeps going July 15 with the Bluegrass Extravaganza from 1-8 p.m. A children’s festival is on the agenda for Sunday, July 16.

On Saturday, July 22, it’s Paul Piget & Cousin Harley followed by Cat’s Meow Saturday, July 29.

Bookings on Saturdays in August include: Reggae Aug. 5; Accordion Festival Aug. 12; Coastal Strings and much more Aug. 19; and Country Music Aug. 26.

Every Tuesday evening during July and August is slated for Music in the Park from 7-8:30 p.m. Watch for posted schedules around town closer to the dates.
