Winners in the Chemainus Legion Branch 191 Remembrance Day poster and literary contest for 2022 were announced during an awards ceremony at the Chemainus Legion Jan. 15.
In the senior division, Brooklyn Stobbe took first place for black and white poster, with Ashley Loeffen second; the two Chemainus Secondary School students reversed positions for colour poster, with Loeffen first and Stobbe second; and Keirah Giles, also of Chemainus Secondary, was first in poetry.
Intermediate division winners were also all from Chemainus Secondary.
Naomi Bowden was tops in poetry, with Romy Sherry second and Ayla van Ham third; Callia Banks had first in essay; Banks claimed first and van Ham second for black and white poster; and Sherry was awarded first and Banks second for their colour posters.
In junior poetry, Raeya Allester of Chemainus Elementary Community School was first followed by Crofton Elementary School’s Thea van Ham in second and Brooklyn White in third; Chemainus Elementary’s Alex Jensen was first for colour poster, with Willow Wright second and Evan Sommerville from Crofton Elementary third; and Finley Campbell of Crofton Elementary had first place for black and white poster.
The primary colour poster category was won by Jordan Champagne of Crofton Elementary. Chemainus Elementary’s Carter Newbauer took second spot and Corbin Edmonson third.
Additional judging at the South Vancouver Island Zone resulted in the following winners: Brooklyn Stobbe (first place senior black and white poster); Ashley Loeffen (first place senior colour poster); Keirah Giles (first place senior poetry); and Alex Jensen (third place junior colour poster).
Those entries by Stobbe, Loeffen and Giles now also go on to be judged at the BC/Yukon provincial level.
