The Chemainus + District Chamber of Commerce is kicking off the holiday season with a popular annual event.

The Christmas Market and FUNdraiser takes place on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Waterwheel Square from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The Chemainus and District Chamber of Commerce has once again partnered with 49th Parallel Grocery, Island Savings and Seniors101.ca to host this festive event,” says Melody Smythies, the Chamber’s events coordinator. “There will be a musical performance by the Chemainus Concert Community Band and people will enjoy the St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church’s bake sale.

“There will also be a variety of local market vendors offering art, crafts, unique gifts and more,” Smythies adds.

Santa will be on hand with Mrs. Claus on the Ploughs & Petticoats Christmas carriage.

“There will be free carriage rides thanks to our sponsor, Island Savings,” Smythies says.

There will also be hot chocolate, treats and the Chemainus 49th Parallel Grocery will be selling hotdogs by donation.

“Come on downtown, have some fun, support giving and spend the day holiday shopping in Chemainus,” advises Smythies, who notes about 750 people attended the first Christmas Market in 2021. Smythies is looking forward to welcoming even more people this year.

There are still a few stalls left for the event and interested vendors can contact Smythies at 250-737-3370 or email events@chemainus.bc.ca.

This year’s FUNdraiser is supporting two local charitable organizations. The Cowichan Neighbourhood House Association needs help. Located at 9806 Willow St., Neighbourhood House provides meals, clothing, personal essentials and support for people within our communities.

All cash donations collected as part of this year’s FUNdraiser will go to support Neighbourhood House.

Toys, Toiletries and Toques is dedicated to putting smiles on faces and ensuring families in need have gifts for the holiday season. You can help by donating new toys, gift items, toiletries and clothing.

Stop by Little Angels Children’s Boutique at 103-9844 Croft St. in Chemainus for amazing deals on kid’s clothing and $10 gift bundles.

“You can also visit our local stores and pharmacies for donation items and bring them to the Chemainus Visitor Centre in Waterwheel Park weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or bring them to the event on Nov. 19,” suggests Smythies.

CNHA will be there to provide receipts and the elves from Toys, Toiletries and Toques will be stopping by to pick up donations. To donate online, visit toystoiletriestoques.ca.
