The Chemainus Holiday Passport Campaign launches Friday, Dec. 7 and runs until Dec. 17.

It’s become an annual shopping tradition that encourages residents and visitors to shop locally and discover new businesses.

Here’s how it works. A purchase of $10 or more at any participating retailer will earn shoppers a stamp. Once shoppers have collected five stamps from five different businesses, they can enter to win a $250 gift card that can be used at any of the participating businesses.

“We’re passionate about encouraging people to shop locally in Chemainus and this campaign is the perfect tool to facilitate that,” noted Shelley Johnstone, coordinator for the Chemainus Business Improvement Association.

“Chemainus is a wonderful artisan community that boasts a lively culinary, antique, art and boutique scene. There’s no reason to shop anywhere else.”

With 23 businesses participating in the holiday campaign, it will be easier than ever to fill up a passport. Shoppers can enter as many passports as they like, too, and the more passports one enters, the better chances of winning the $250 gift card grand prize.

The campaign encourages customers to explore businesses and discover treasures in Chemainus. Shoppers can pick up passports at any participating business starting on Dec. 7. Completed passports must be returned by 5 p.m. on Dec. 17 at any participating retailer for the draw to take place the next day.
