It’s been impossible not to get caught up in the Christmas spirit around Chemainus the last couple of weeks.
It’s just now getting into December, but the festive flair of community events last weekend made it seem like the big day was a lot closer.
It all got going Friday afternoon with the Chemainus United Church’s Everything Christmas event. The name was entirely appropriate, with everything Christmas you could imagine from great baked goods to knitting and decorations.
Folks were lined up outside the door to the upstairs room where the sale was held before the opening at 3 p.m. to get a chance at the best selection.
The Free Radical Dixie Band played Christmas songs inside the church adjacent to the sale.
A short time later, the Moonlight Madness shopping and eating event began and lasted until 8 p.m., with great sales and specials from businesses. Some also had goodies for shoppers to enjoy while they browsed.
Saturday was another big day around town, with a multitude of events taking place simultaneously.
There was the return of the ever-popular Chemainus Fire Hall Christmas craft fair that drew a large crowd, the Chemainus Legion Christmas craft and gift sale and photos with Santa at the Island Savings Credit Union in Village Square.
