Fundraising for the Anya’s Journey Foundation is off to a great start.

The foundation’s first major event, Anya’s Sundae Day at the Duncan Dairy Queen March 22, raised $7,300.

“That’s a mix of sundaes, contest and direct donations,” noted Bruce Findlay of Crofton, one of the founders of the society named after his daughter Anya, who has a rare genetic disorder known as Lamb-Shaffer Syndrome. “It was an excellent day.”

One of the things Anya loves the most is to go for a sundae at Dairy Queen and that prompted the fundraiser. Many others took advantage of the opportunity to indulge in the treat on that day and support the cause.

The foundation is working towards raising $500,000 for an accessible playground for all ages at Fuller Lake Park.

“We’ll be planning a golf tournament very soon, as well as a burger and beer event,” added Bruce Findlay.
