Memorable visit with Santa for boy with Down Syndrome

Face lights up to make Christmas wishes come true

‘Make My Day.’ Santa did that far more for Samuel Douglas than Clint Eastwood could have imagined while the jolly old man was stationed on Severne Street in Chemainus.

“He made this child’s whole year,” noted Lisa Douglas whose son Samuel, 10, has Down Syndrome, Autism and ADHD.

“He has struggled so much throughout this year with not being able to have the contact with the friends, family and service providers that he is used to,” Lisa added. “He doesn’t understand the pandemic at all, so it has been a real challenge trying to tell him why he can’t see these people.”

Samuel loves holidays and could even be seen wearing his Santa hat and Christmas shirt in the summer.

”When we told him that Santa was in Chemainus right now, I’m not sure he believed us at all,” Lisa pointed out. “When we drove up to the house and Santa stood up, he could not believe his eyes and started screaming Santa’s name. Once we walked up to the house he was completely star struck. He managed to get out his name and had to be coaxed with everything else.”

Lisa indicated Samuel has very limited words but managed to tell everyone he talked to on Facetime about the visit.

He was beaming and the picture shows him with one of the best smiles his mom has seen all year.

”Chemainus Santa is one of the most amazing people we have met,” mom Lisa praised.
