The Chemainus Health Care Centre’s adjusted operating hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day are now in effect.

Island Health says the adjustment will ensure physicians and staff can provide access to safe and sustainable care during peak hours.

The Chemainus Health Care Centre previously operated from 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m. On average, just one patient per day is seen during the period of the change in hours.

People in need of urgent care before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m. can attend the Ladysmith Community Health Centre (open 7:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m.) or the Cowichan District Hospital emergency department (open 24 hours a day).

Island Health says it continues to recruit to support a sustainable staffing model for the Chemainus Health Care Centre.
