Chemainus CATastrophe raised $758 plus dry food donations from its recent fundraiser at the Chemainus 49th Parallel Grocery store in Village Square.

CATastrophe is responsible for feeding feral cats at a colony near Chemainus and Cowichan Cat Rescue traps, spays and neuters, fosters and covers the vet expenses for cats. All proceeds help end the needless suffering of this feral cat colony.

The proceeds will allow the purchase of dry food for two months. The cost of a year’s worth of dry food is roughly $8,000.

The group is grateful to 49th for its support and thanks the community for generously supporting the fundraiser and donating dry food.

Something new CATastrophe would like to start is to feed the same kind of food to the cats to prevent intestinal issues. They’ve identified the Kirkland brand Maintenance Cat from Costco as being both nutritional and cost effective with a large nine kilogram bag costing $22 plus tax.

People going to Costco can toss a bag into their buggies or drop off cash at Downtown Auto. Volunteers will purchase the dry cat food from Costco.

There’s currently enough wet food to last until the early fall and the call will go out again when the supply starts running short. Original receipts are needed for a tax receipt and a donation of $20 or more will receive a tax receipt from CCR.

Cowichan Cat Rescue is also looking for people who have barns and would like to provide permanent home for cats. Anyone interested should contact CCR for further information.
