Here’s some food for thought: either purchase or gather up some dry cat food and get ready to donate it to CATastrophe during a hot dog fundraiser Saturday, June 16, starting at 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 49th Parallel Grocery.

CATastrophe volunteers who support a local colony of about 100 feral cats will be on hand for the fundraiser. Due to a generous donation, the wet food requirements of the cats have been met till the fall, but it’s dry food that’s in desperate need.

It can be dropped off at the fundraiser or with Lana Halme at Downtown Auto from Monday through Friday.

CATastrophe is grateful to the community for its ongoing support and to 49th Parallel for its assistance and donations for the fundraiser. Great Canadian Dollar Store in Ladysmith has donated the aprons.

Cowichan Cat Rescue and its volunteers trap, spay and neuter the cats and find them homes.

In the last few weeks, some 80 cats have been rescued and now have homes. Only 10 cats had to be released back into the colony.

CATastrophe feeds and fundraises to buy food for the cats that’s provided every day.

The goal is to find homes for all the cats in the colony. Eventually, it’s hoped the colony will no longer exist.

The organization reminds people it’s important to spay and neuter pets.

The fundraiser helps control a problem caused by human neglect.
