Crofton Fire Department members are known for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Several members, in fact, have been serving the community for many years and some of those dedicated firefighters were recently honoured.

On June 2, current fire chief Matt Ludvigson noted he “had the honour of presenting service awards to the deserving members at Crofton Fire Hall. Over 250 combined years of service recognized.”

All were special in their own way, but he especially wanted to acknowledge the three chiefs that served before him – Owen Webb, Lee Burridge and Ken Rukus.

“You have all set high standards for us and given us something to reach for,” Ludvigson indicated.

Webb and Rukus each reached 40 years with the department while seven others – Burridge, Joe Bailey, Rob Dyke, Jamie Greenwood, Eric Johnson, Jeff Funk and Jason Thompson – were commended for their commitments over 25 years.

“Thank you for going above and beyond in your service to Crofton, North Cowichan and the fire service,” commented Ludvigson.
