Chemainus students figured prominently in the Cowichan Valley Arts Council Gallery’s In My Head youth art show, honouring young artists.

Noah Marston, 17, who attends Queen Margaret’s School in Duncan, received a juror’s award while Rory Polack, 13, of Chemainus Secondary School was picked for one of three outstanding works awards.

The arts council handed out the awards for some outstanding work by young artists ages 13-21 at the opening event for the annual youth art show on March 2.

This year’s show features the work of more than 75 Cowichan Valley students on the theme of mental health – dreams, imagination and more. The art on display includes: sculpture, photography, painting and drawing.

The show and sale runs in the CVAC Gallery at the Cowichan Community Centre in Duncan until April 1. Admission is free. Gallery hours are: Monday to Friday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturdays from noon-4 p.m.

Jurors Cam Russell and Rory MacDonald commented on the exceptionally varied display of work this year.

“Local students impressed us with their creative abilities ranging from the classic techniques to digital art,” said Russell. “We are proud to celebrate these young artists and to acknowledge the support of teachers and parents as well.”
