Chemainus Legion presents cheque to Wounded Warriors BC Run

This year's run raised more than $235,000 for veterans and first responders' mental health programs

The 12th annual Wounded Warrior Run BC made a stop in Chemainus on March 1.

The runners were met by a welcoming team of supporters including North Cowichan Mayor Rob Douglas, Councillor Mike Caljouw, Chief Administrative Officer Ted Swabey, members of the North Cowichan Fire Department and the Chemainus Legion Branch 191.

Runners made the journey from Port Hardy to Victoria to raise public awareness about critical mental health programs offered by the national organization Wounded Warriors Canada. These programs support injured veterans, first responders affected by job-related trauma, and their families.

The Chemainus Legion presented the Wounded Warriors with a cheque for $3,500. The Chemainus Firefighters also donated $500 to the fundraising efforts. This year’s Wounded Warrior Run BC covered 800 kilometres and raised more than $235,000 to support these programs.

Donations will be accepted until March 31 and can be made via the Wounded Warrior BC website.
