It was quite a sight behold.

Creative kids were everywhere at Waterwheel Park in Chemainus Sunday for the first children’s art festival, hosted by the Chemainus Crofton Community Schools Association and the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society.

Lara White, Early Years manager for the CCSA, said the goal was to provide a welcoming and fun space for kids to explore all things art. It certainly lived up to that billing and went beyond, giving kids an avenue for their self expression no matter what medium they chose.

“Our festival was a lovely success,” White noted.

Elder Florence James opened the festival with blessings, stories and songs. Children braved the stage and entertained the audience with their renditions of classic Fleetwood Mac songs and musical theatre performances.

“Children and families seemed to really enjoy discovering and creating wonderful pieces of art together,” White added.

The event would not have been possible without all the hard work of volunteers and helping hands from the CCSA, CVCAS and Chemainus Public Library.

Chances are good the kids will be anxious to do it all again next year and the success of the event will likely result in an even higher turnout.
