John Hawthorne named BCHL Player of the Week

Chemainus’s own John Hawthorne was named B.C. Hockey League Player of the Week for the span of Nov. 12-18.

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs goaltender had a busy three games over the week, stopping 105 of 11 shots over three games to finish with a .946 save percentage and 2.02 goals-against average. His performances: 36 saves in a 4-1 loss to the Cowichan Valley Capitals last Tuesday, 32 saves in a 2-1 loss to the Price George Spruce Kings on Saturday, and 40 stops in a 4-1 win over the league-leading Chilliwack Chiefs on Sunday.

Those totals don’t include a 35-save shutout win over the Powell River Kings on Nov. 10.

The 20-year-old second-year BCHLer’s save percentage on the season is .920, tied for the second-best mark in the league. He has played the fifth most minutes of any goalie in the BCHL, earning seven wins and 12 losses, with a 2.84 GAA.
