Since 2014, the CVRD has spent or earmarked more than $168,500 of Saltair tax and grant money for Saltair Community Society programs and repurposing or repairing the SCC.

The immediate cost for repairs and upgrading is $737,436 in 2017 and $2,337,157 until and including 2016 for a total of $3,074,593. This is the amount of money Saltair property owners would be required to pay from property taxes and grants.

For more details go to the Saltair news and views website: saltairnews.com.

In 2012, the Area Director G Mel Dorey said our gas tax grant money would go toward our water system upgrades. Since 2014, Mr. Dorey has allocated amounts of this gas tax money to the SCC repairs and upgrades.

Be aware Saltair property owners are committed to funding: $4.5 million over 15 years for water system upgrades which will not cover the cost of all the required improvements; a water filtrations system mandated by the VIHA which could cost $5 million or more.

Attend a meeting of the Saltair Citizens For A Referendum on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m., Chemainus Senior’s Drop-in-Centre, 9824 Willow St., Chemainus.
