Chemainus definitely worthy of a weather mention

Various criteria used to identify communities on forecasts, but no one wants a cluttered map

Re: Chemainus worthy of a mention on weather forecasts (Courier, Feb. 1).

In response to this letter, I contacted CHEK-TV on behalf of the Chemainus Chamber of Commerce. I spoke with Ed Bain and read him the concerns raised in the letter.

Ed fully understood this issue. Many other communities have raised this concern with him in the past.

The design of the weather map is decided by several criteria. The communities named are indicative of the weather patterns generally experienced in that area, not just that community. They want the map to be easily understood visually, and easy to deliver verbally, not cluttered with community names.

Ed said he will try to mention Chemainus by name, and how beautiful it is, from time to time whilst delivering the weather forecast.
