The Chemainus Water system switched over to the Chemainus River wells water supply Sunday.

The wells are the water source for the region from Oct. 15 through June 15. The Banon Creek surface water supply operates from June 15 to Oct. 15.

The Municipality of North Cowichan expected the high quality well water to reach Chemainus water system users within a few days after the switchover so everything should be flowing well by now.

The Municipality has submitted an application to amend the B.C. Environmental Assessment Certificate to operate the Chemainus River wells water supply year-round after monitoring summer Chemainus River flows and ground water levels since 2005.

Last summer, the Municipality conducted additional testing that supported the amendment application. A review of the application by the B.C. Environmental Office is now underway.

Comments are invited on the Municipality’s application to operate the Chemainus River wells year-round. Comments can be directed by email to info@northcowichan.ca.
