The Chemainus Business Improvement Association has unwrapped some big plans for the holiday season.

“We’re doing three things for the Chemainus business group that includes Uptown, Midtown, Downtown and Old Town,” said marketing and events director Krystal Adams.

The holiday passport is a new introduction to Chemainus businesses, residents and visitors. For each purchase of $20 or more made at participating businesses, patrons receive one passport stamp. Once nine are collected, including at least five from different businesses, an entry is provided for a grand prize that features gifts from participants and equates to a value of more than $250.

All finalized passports need to be received by Dec. 15.

The promotion ties into the Gift Guide Advent Calendar available now and the highly-anticipated Moonlight Madness event Dec. 1.

“The passport works really well because it helps people to go and explore other local businesses and more often than not you find something so unexpected and perfect, no other gift would have done - but then again, winning the basket is an extra bonus,” noted Adams. “There are so many amazing items in this basket, it is truly worthy of the name grand prize.”

The Chemainus BIA’s Gift Guide Advent Calendar is a unique way to showcase holiday shopping.

Each day, gift ideas will be unveiled that Chemainus shops, galleries and businesses have to offer. The unveilings have little surprises like one-day specials, discounts and other wonderful things.

Items will be unveiled online daily through social media and via www.visitchemainus.ca.

“We are excited to show the Cowichan region the amazing finds right here in Chemainus,” Adams indicated. “There are some truly original items that can’t be found anywhere else. Find stocking stuffers plus the little and big gifts at a range of price points.”

Planning for the third annual Moonlight Madness event, running just the one night on Dec. 1, is well underway.

Chemainus boutiques, galleries, storefronts, restaurants and a variety of other shops are opening their doors for this special event running from 4:30-7 p.m.

Merchants will offer deep discounts along with draws and giveaways, and also hosting individual tastings and events plus Santa Claus makes an appearance to welcome children with a professional photo shoot by Shawn Wagar.

Chemainus Secondary School students are hosting a bake sale, music and carolers will abound and there’ll be plenty of activities for the children - truly a festive atmosphere.
